Public Description:

Euphorbia is a genus of annual, biennial or perennial herbs or subshrubs, generally known as “supurge”, and spreads widely around the world. There are approximately 2046 species in the world and 105 species (119 taxa) in Türkiye. The sap contains a latex which is toxic (poisonous) on ingestion and highly irritant externally, causing photosensitive skin reactions and severe inflammation, especially on contact with eyes or open cuts. The toxicity can remain high even in dried plant material. Prolonged and regular contact with the sap is inadvisable because of its carcinogenic nature. Some species, "poinsettia (Euphorbia pulcherrima Willd. Ex Klotzsch)", are used as ornamental plants, while some species of “spurge (Euphorbia L.)” have been proved to be effective against the genital herpes (HSV-2).
