Scientific Description:

Glabrous glaucous caespitose perennial, stems several, to 60 cm, arising from a woody stock. Cauline leaves linear or oblong-linear, 10−40(−55) × 1−5(−10) mm, acute or subacute, entire, somewhat coriaceous. Ray-leaves linear-lanceolate to ovate. Raylet-leaves ovate-rhombic to transversely ovate, 5−15 × 5−15 mm, apex subacute, mucronate, base cuneate to truncate. Rays (5−)7−38, to 5 times dichotomous; axillary rays (0−)2−15(−50). Glands transversely ovate, truncate, hornless. Fruit trilobate, 3−3.5 mm diam., smooth, glabrous. Seeds ovoid to ellipsoid, 2 mm, ± smooth, pale grey, sometimes brownish-mottled, with a ± hemispherical caruncle.

Cauline leaves usually spreading, subacute; rays (15−)20−38; axillary rays 0−30(−50).

 

 

Flowering Time: March−October.

Habitat: Forest, scrub, steppe, rocky slopes, streamsides, fallow fields, roadsides, 10−1900 m.

Public Description:

Euphorbia seguieriana, known as “siberian spurge”, is distributed in Central and Western Europe and the Balkans to Turkey, the Caucasus, Western Siberia and Pakistan. It is an upright, bushy, clump-forming perennial plant, and grows up to 60 cm in length. It blooms between March and October and is found in forest, scrub, steppe, rocky slopes, streamsides, fallow fields and roadsides. All parts of the plant are highly toxic if ingested. The milky sap may cause irritation to skin and eyes.
