Importance of İbuFlora

Approximately 34,000 of the 270,000 plant species in the world are endangered. Besides the endemic plant richness that Türkiye possesses, the hazards these species face are also quite high. Factors such as industrialization and urbanization, agricultural activities, global warming related climate changes, habitat destruction, uncontrolled plant collection/disposal, and combating harmful factors are the main threats to biodiversity. These threats are expected to reduce the biodiversity potential of 45% in 2000 to 34-42% in 2030.

Undoubtedly, the protection of biodiversity depends on the consciousness of the community in this regard, and the basic way of doing this is through recognition and presentation. Transmission of information to the next generations by means of publicizing and introducing scientific studies to the public will serve this purpose.

Presenting scientific information and high quality plant photographs obtained as a result of scientific researches of plants as a book or brochure, as well as especially internet pages, is important for the delivery of accurate information to the public and naturalists.

We can list the purposes of creating the website "İbuFlora" or "Bolu Abant İzzet Baysal University Campus Flora" as follows:

  1. To reveal inventory of Bolu Abant İzzet Baysal University Campus Flora,
  2. Delivering accurate scientific information about plants with high-quality photographs to every segment of the society (plant taxonomists to naturalists, indigenous peoples to foreigners, child to adult)
  3. To contribute to the interactive learning of the students who are studying in the fields of agriculture, pharmacy, forestry, environment and landscaping, especially biology students in universities,
  4. To raise public awareness on plants and biodiversity issues,
  5. Contributing to the interactive learning of primary and secondary students.

This web site will be referred to as the "World's First Electronic Campus (University) Natural Flora" on the date of its launch (09.07.2017), when the natural flora of the Bolu Abant İzzet Baysal University Campus was moved to the internet.
