Scientific Description:

Perennial herb, up to 30 cm. Main axis not terminating in a rosette, but in a flowering stem. Stipules lanceolate, subentire or shortly fimbriate-dentate. Leaves ovate to ovate-lanceolate, shallowly crenate or crenate-serrate. Flowers blue. Lower petal 7−18 mm, spur yellowish, 2 × or more longer than the calyx appendages.

 

Flowering time: AprilJuly

Habitat: Heaths, fens, and moist woodlands, especially on acidic soils.

Viola canina, commonly known as “heath dog-violet” or “ heath violet”, is native to Türkiye and Europe. It is a herbaceous perennial plant with blue flowers, and grows up to 30 cm in length. It blooms between April and July, and is found in heaths, fens, and moist woodlands, especially on acidic soils.
