Scientific Description:

Erect perennial herbs with soft, short indumentum especially in the lower part, up to 80 cm. Basal leaves obovate to lanceolate, acute, petiolate; cauline leaves smaller and narrower. Inflorescence a wide, spreading panicle. Calyx ± tubular in flower, 15−21 mm, sparsely and shortly puberulous; clavate in fruit. Petals creamy or whitish, deeply bifid. Anthophore 7−11 mm. Capsule included in the calyx.

 

Flowering time: April.

Habitat: Open places, often with Pinus nigra, (50−)650−2400 m.

Public Description:

Silene italica, common name “Italian catchfly” or “Italian campion”, which is native to Türkiye, the Eastern Mediterranean, the Caucasus, Northern Iran, Central Asia, North Africa and the whole of Europe with the exception of north and north-western Europe. It is a herbaceous perennial plant with whitish or creamy flowers, and can grow up to 80 cm in length. It blooms in April, and found in open places, often with Pinus nigra forest.
