Shrub with long trailing turions. Turions subterete, brown, pubescent, bearing unequal subulate weak prickles, unequal glandular hairs (often purplish red) and some acicles. Leaves 3(−5)-nate, ± concolorous, usually hirsute above and below, unequally dentate; lateral leaflets shortly petioluled, terminal leaflet 5−16 cm, 4−6 (−10) × petiolule, ovate to suborbicular, subcordate, acute to acuminate-cuspidate; stipules linear, margined by glandular hairs. Flowering shoots often subpruinose, the armature differing from that of the turions in having slender acicular prickles and denser glandular hairs up to 1.5−4 mm long. Panicle lax, subaphyllous, ovate to pyramidal, with zig-zag rachis, 12−50-flowered, similar to that of Rubus tereticaulis, rather densely covered with acicles and glandular hairs up to 1.5−4 mm long. Sepals prominently caudate, erect in fruit, tomentellous, bearing acicles and glandular hairs. Petals white, oblong-obovate, 6−8(−10) mm. Filaments slightly longer than styles; anthers glabrous. Carpels glabrous or pilose. Drupelets black, numerous, c. 3 mm.
