Scientific Description:

Annual, usually branched from near base with erect branches, 15−50 cm, ± hispid. Basal leaves not rosette-forming, lyrate, petiolate. Cauline leaves petiolate; uppermost sessile, entire. Inflorescence loose before anthesis, greatly elongating in fruit. Petals 14−17 × 4−8 mm, white, pale rose, lilac or yellow, usually with dark veins that are rarely absent. Fruiting pedicels erect-ascending, 10−30 mm. Fruit 1. 4−6.5 cm × 3−7 mm. Seeds usually reticulate.

 

Flowering time: March−May.

Habitat: Fallow fields, cultivated ground, sandy fields, s.l.−400 m.

Public Description:

Raphanus raphanistrum, known as “wild radish”, is native to western Asia, Europe and Northern Africa. It is an annual plant with white, pale rose, lilac or yellow flowers, and grows up to 50 cm in length. It blooms between March and May and is found in fallow fields, cultivated grounds and sandy fields. It is an important source of pollen and nectar at the beginning of spring for various pollinator insects and especially honey bees.
