Platanthera chlorantha(Custer) Rchb. - Greater butterfly-orchid
Scientific Description:
Plants normally more robust than Platanthera bifolia (L.) Rich. Stem ridged above; 2(–4) basal leaves subopposite. Spike lax, many-flowered. Flowers greenish-white, less scented. Lateral sepals obliquely ovate-lanceolate, to 13 mm; dorsal sepal triangular-cordate, c. 8 × 8 mm, forming a shield over the column. Petals linear-lanceolate. Labellum slightly curved inwards, darker greenish, 11–15(–l8) mm. Spur filiform, slightly inflated towards apex, to 40 mm. Column short, broad, viscid discs large, circular.
Flowering time: June–July.
Habitat: Deciduous and coniferous forest, grassland, mainly on forest margins, s.l.–2200 m.

Public Description:
Platanthera chlorantha, commonly known as “greater butterfly-orchid”, is native to Europe, Morocco and Türkiye. It is herbaceous perennial plant with greenish-white flower which is scented of vanilla, with spreading sepals and petals. Greater butterfly-orchid is found in woods, open scrub, and grassland including on chalk.
