Scientific Description:
Erect, biennial with a long flexuous pubescence, rootstock thick, stems 20−100 cm, terete. Leaves 1-pinnate, 10−30 cm; leaflets 2−6-paired, ovate, 3−10 cm, dentate, sparsely hairy above, more densely so beneath; terminal leaflet often orbicular, enlarged. Umbels terminal and axillary, usually 5−7-rayed; bracts and bracteoles 0−2, caducous. Petals yellow, glabrous. Fruit 5−7 × c. 4 mm, broadly ovate, glabrous; wing c. 0.5 mm wide.
Flowering time: July−August.
Habitat: Damp places, especially on cultivated ground, in Corylus L. scrub, etc.; s.l.−1500 m.

Public Description:
Pastinaca sativa, known as “şeker havucu” in Turkish, is native to Türkiye, Europe, the Caucasus and Lebanon. It is a biennial herb with yellow flowers and grows up to 100 cm in length. It blooms between July and August and is found in damp places, especially on cultivated ground and in hazelnut (Corylus L.) scrub. The roots are consumed as vegetables and closely related to the carrot and parsley. It has a sweeter taste, especially when cooked. It is rich in minerals and vitamins especially B-group vitamins and vitamin C. It contains some antioxidants may potentially have anticancer, anti-inflammatory and antifungal properties.
