Scientific Description:
Annual, biennial or short-lived perennial. Stems procumbent, ascending or erect, 15−50 cm, often branched from base. Leaves linear, 5−15 × 1−1.5(−2.0) mm, acute, 1(−3)-nerved, thinnish. Sepals broadly elliptic-ovate, shortly acuminate, glossy, 5−6 mm, with a strong nerve extending to tip, lateral nerves weak. Petals blue, c. 1 cm. Stigmas clavate-filiform. Capsule fully dehiscent, 5−6 mm.
Flowering time: March−May.
Habitat: Grassy places, fixed dunes, ditches, rocky hillsides, by streams, s.l.−1900 m.

Public Description:
Linum bienne, common name “pale flax”, is native to the Mediterranean region and western Europe, north to England and Ireland. The pale flax grows as a biennial or short-lived perennial plant in dry, sunny calcareous or grasslands. It is a plant less than 50 cm long, with pale blue flowers with dark lines. The fiber obtained from the stem is used to make the fabric.
