Public Description:
Helianthemum nummularium subsp. mummularium, known as “rock-rose”, “sun rose” or “rock rose”, is distributed in Central and Northern Europe, Balkans, South and Central Russia and Caucasia. It is an evergreen trailing perennial shrubs with clusters of bright yellow flowers which are sensitive to the touch. It blooms between April and August and is found in basic grassland and scrub. The wild species has yellow flowers, but garden varieties range from white through yellow to deep red. This is a good nectar source for bees and there are several species of small beetle that feed on the foliage. The sun rose is also the food plant for the larvae of several species of moth and butterfly.
