Dianthus calocephalus Boiss. - Beautiful-headed Carnation
Scientific Description:
Perennial 30−70 cm tall. Leaves linear, long-acuminate, (1−)2.5(−4) mm wide. Bracts coriaceous, ovate-oblong, cordate, shorter than the capitulum. Bracteoles 4, less than ½ the calyx length, coriaceous, pale, ovate, aristate, margins membranous. Calyx 16−20 × 3−4.5 mm, widest in lower half; teeth 4−6 mm, linear, mucronate. Petal limb 4−5 mm, red, dentate, barbulate.
Flowering time: May−September.
Habitat: Sand-dunes, volcanic and limestone slopes, steppe, fields, open woodland, rocks, 400−2300 m.

Public Description:
Dianthus calocephalus, common name “beautiful-headed carnation”, is distributed in Türkiye, Balkans and Transcaucasia. It is a perennial herb which grow up to 70 cm, with linear leaves and red flowers. It blooms between May and September and is found in sand dunes, volcanic and limestone slopes, steppes, fields, open forest and rocks.
