Scientific Description:
Erect shrub or small tree, 8−10 m, sparingly thorny. Leaves obovate to rhombic-ovate, 1.5−2.5(−5) × 1.5−2.5 cm, base cuneate, green, villous, more densely so beneath; lobes 3−7(−9), deeply incised, on sterile shoots almost to the midrib, glandular-serrate; petioles 3−10 mm. Corymbs 4−8-flowered. Flowers white 2−2.5 cm diam; sepals large, triangular, reflexed in fruit; styles 5. Fruit yellow, sometimes suffused with red, globose, c. 2 cm diam, pubescent especially near the apex and base; pyrenes 5.
Flowering time: (May−)June(−July).
Habitat: Rocky limestone slopes in pine (Pinus L.) or oak (Quercus L.) forest, 800−1800 m.

Public Description:
Crataegus tanacetifolia, commonly known as “tansy-leaved thorn”, is an endemic species to Türkiye and it occurs on dry slopes or in rocky places, usually on calcareous rocks. It is an erect shrub with white flowers and yellow or reddish-yellow fruits, and grows up to 10 m in length. It blooms between May and July. The fruit of the plant is soft juicy and acid/sweet apple-like flavour in taste when fully ripe. The fruit is eaten raw or cooked, also used for making jelly, jam and syrup, and can be preserved or dried for later use.
