Scientific Description:
Deciduous trees or shrubs, usually with thorns. Leaves alternate, simple, lobed to subpinnate, entire or serrate. Inflorescence corymbose, borne on spur shoots. Flowers 5-merous, epicalyx absent; hypanthium adnate to the carpels; petals white or pinkish, usually longer than the persistent sepals; stamens 5−25; carpels 1−5, united on the inner margin, at least near the base. Fruit drupaceous, yellow red, dark purple or black, usually with a mealy flesh; pyrenes 1−5, bony.

Public Description:
Crataegus, is a large genus of deciduous shrubs and trees, commonly known as “hawthorn” or “hawberry”, and is native to temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere in Europe, Asia and North America. There are approximately 380 species in the world and 24 species (33 taxa) in Türkiye. They have white or pinkish flowers and usually thorny branches. They have edible fruits which are used in making cakes, candies and jellies and can be consumed as raw or cooked. The fruits of natural species are used in the treatment of weak heart conditions, especially when accompained by high blood pressure.
