Public Description:
Capsella bursa-pastoris, common name “shepherd's-purse” is native to Eastern Europe and Asia minor but is naturalized and considered a common weed in many parts of the World. It is an annual or perennial plant species that lives in agricultural fields and barren landscapes, covered with star-studded hairs and white flowering. The plant, which is less than 50 cm in length, opens flowers throughout the year. It is known for its resistance to drought and cold. The heart-shaped fruit capsules of the plant resemble shepherd's-purse and for this reason it is known in many parts of the world in this sense. It is gathered from the wild or grown for food, to supplement animal feed, for cosmetics, and for medicinal purposes.
