TURGENIA Hoffm. - FALSE CARROT

Scientific Description:

Setose or scabrous annual herbs. Leaves 1-pinnate with oblong or lanceolate, dentate leaflets. Umbels terminal. Rays 3−5. Bracts 3−5, much shorter than the scabrous rays, with wide scarious margins. Bracteoles narrowly elliptic to oblanceolate. Petals white, pink or purplish, the outer radiant. Fruit ovoid, little compressed, both primary and secondary ridges bearing equal, long spines in 1−2 series.

Public Description:

Turgenia is a genus of annual plants, commonly known as “false carrot”, and is distributed in Europe, Northwest Africa, Southwest Asia, Turkistan, Pakistan and Kashmir. There is only 1 species in the world and Türkiye.
