Scientific Description:
Perennial herbs, ± suffrutescent, furnished with dark punctate glands. Leaves alternate, bi- or tripinnatisect. Inflorescence cymose, bracteate. Sepals and petals 4, or usually in the central flower 5. Petals ± cucullate, yellow, dentate or ciliate, more rarely entire and undulate. Stamens twice as many as the petals, the filaments glabrous, narrow, attenuate. Capsule 4− or 5-lobed, dehiscent, loculi multiovulate.

Public Description:
Ruta, commonly known as “rue”, is native to the Mediterranean region, Macaronesia (a collection of four archipelagos in the North Atlantic Ocean. These are; Azores, Madeira, Canary Islands and Cape Verde) and southwest Asia. They are strongly scented evergreen subshrubs which have yellow flowers and green or glaucous leaves. There are 11 species in the world and 6 species (6 taxa) in Türkiye.
