Scientific Description:
Robust perennial leafless brownish saprophyte without chlorophyll. Rhizome creeping, short, bearing a dense nest-like mass of fleshy roots. Stem usually solitary. Raceme dense, flowers numerous, lower ones with short twisted pedicel. Sepals and petals ± alike. Labellum 2-lobed, spurless. Column rather short; rostellum with sensitive viscidium; pollinia 2, bipartite, free. Ovary cylindrical-ovate, straight, ± glandular; pedicel twisted (upper ones subsessile).

Public Description:
Neottia, commonly known as “twayblade”, is native to Europe, Türkiye, northern Asia, and North America. There are approximately 64 species in the world and 1 species (1 taxon) in Türkiye. This genus includes non-photosynthetic small parasitic terrestrial orchids with small, in shades of green, yellow, brown or red to purple flowers.
