Scientific Description:

Glabrous, glaucous, usually rather rigid annual herbs. Flowers 4−5-merous, solitary or in spreading cymes. Petals white or blue, entire or retuse. Stamens (5−)8−10. Styles (3−)5, opposite the sepals. Fruit a capsule opening by twice as many teeth as there are styles. Seeds numerous, papillose.

Public Description:

Moenchia is a genus of annual herbs known as “upright chickweed”. They are native to the Mediterranean region of southern Europe and naturalised in southern Africa and parts of North America and Australia. All members of this genus represented in the world by 3 species are also found in Türkiye. They are plants with slender roots, weak hairless stem and white or blue colored flowers. The genus name is dedicated to the 18th century German botanist Conrad Moench.
