Scientific Description:

Herbs. Epicalyx segments (2−)3, linear to ovate or oblong. Petals emarginate. Ovary of numerous carpels in a single series around the style, each 1-ovulate. Fruit a schizocarp splitting into numerous, 1-seeded, indehiscent mericarps.

Public Description:

Malva, known as “mallow”, is a genus of herbaceous annual, biennial, and perennial plants. They are widespread throughout the temperate, subtropical and tropical regions of Africa, Asia and Europe. There are approximately 29 species in the world and 10 species (10 taxa) in Türkiye. Some species are used as ornamental plants in gardens but some species are weeds in agriculture. In Anatolia, some mallow species are gathered and cooked like spinach.
