Scientific Description:

Erect herbaceous perennials. Leaves opposite, at least near the base, spirally arranged above, or all spirally arranged, rarely verticillate. Flowers solitary and axillary or in simple or compound bracteate racemes, actinomorphic or zygomorphic, 4-merous, hypanthial tube short or absent; sepals free; petals whitish to pink or purple, usually emarginate; stamens 8; stigma clavate to deeply 4-lobed; ovary 4-locular. Fruit a narrowly cylindrical capsule, dehiscing into 4 valves; seeds 1−2 mm, papillose or smooth, each with a chalazal plume of hairs (coma).

Public Description:

Epilobium is a genus of mostly herbaceous annual or perennial plants and very few subshrubs, known as “willowherbs”, and has a worldwide distribution. There are approximately 222 species in the world and 21 species (25 taxa) in Türkiye. It is a perennial herbaceous plant that has pink, purple or white colored flowers, and its leaves are generally opposite arranged on its erect stem. Many species of this genus are regarded as as weeds in cultivated areas. Especially "fireweed (Epilobium angustifolium L.)" quickly covers newly burned areas.
