Scientific Description:
Annuals or biennials. Leaves (1−)2−3-pinnate. Umbels terminal. Central flowers of umbel often sterile, reduced to purplish or blackish bristles. Rays 3-numerous. Bracts pinnatisect, pinnate or 3-fid. Petals usually small, white, pink or yellowish. Fruit with the primary ridges bearing small, hair-like spines, the secondary ridges with longer, patent spines in a single series.

Public Description:
Daucus is a genus of annual or perennial herbaceous plants, commonly known as “carrot”, and is distrubuted in worldwide. However, the temperate zones of North Africa and Southwest Asia are mainstream areas. There are 28 species in the world and 7 species (7 taxa) in Türkiye. They have pure white, reddish, pinkish or yellowish flowers. Some species have edible roots, similar to radishes which may or may not be bitter in taste. Especially Daucus carota L. (wild carrot) is an important root vegetable and has economic importance in the food sector. The carrot is a significant source of some vitamins (A, B, C, E, H) and beta carotene, folic acid, pantothenic acid. In addition to its use as food, it has health-improving properties, such as eyesight ability, cholesterol-lowering and digestion-promoting.
