Scientific Description:

Biennial, 30−80 cm, densely adpressed or subadpressed tomentose. Stem terete, usually branched. Basal leaves often glabrescent above, densely tomentose beneath, oblong to lanceolate, 6−35 × 2−17 cm, coarsely and often repand-crenate or crenulate, petiole 3−8 cm; cauline smaller, upper broadly ovate, caudate-acuminate. Inflorescence ± dense, much branched, forming pyramidal panicle; flowers 2−4 in clusters at first contiguous, later remote. Lower bracts ovate, denticulate, upper linear-lanceolate, entire; bracteoles 2. Pedicels absent or to 2 mm. Calyx 6−10 mm, white-tomentose, with or without microglands, lobes linear. Corolla yellow, 25−35 mm diam. , without pellucid glands, pubescent outside. Stamens 5, filaments with whitish-yellow wool, 2 anterior glabrous above and below, with a hairy line in middle, their anthers decurrent, 2.5−3.5 mm. Capsule ovate, 7−9 × 4−6 mm, tomentose.

 

Flowering time: June−July.

Habitat: Roadsides, dry slopes, steppe, 920−1300 m.

Public Description:

Verbascum caudatum is an endemic species to Türkiye and known as “keller sığırkuyruğu” in Turkish. It is a biennial herb with yellow flowers, and grows up to 80 cm in length. The plants form rosette leaves in the first year, and stems in the following season. Leaves are spirallly arranged and densely hairy. It blooms between June and July and is found in roadsides, dry slopes, steppe.
