Scientific Description:
Perennial herb; stems erect or ascending, 15−70 cm, many, branched above or not, pilose to villous below with sessile glands. Leaves simple, oblong to ovate, 2.5−13 × 2−9 cm, or lyrate with one or two pairs of unequal basal lobes, pilose to villous with many sessile glands, subentire to serrate, rounded to cordate; petiole 1.5−7(−9) cm. Verticillasters (8−)20−40-flowered, clearly distant. Bracts ovate-acuminate, c. 7 × 3 mm, deciduous. Pedicels 2−8(−10) mm, some ± deflexed. Calyx tubular, 5−6 mm to c. 7 mm in fruit with a bisulcate upper lip, violet-blue, pilose to villous with sessile glands, teeth mucronate. Corolla violet-blue, lilac, rarely white, c. 12 mm; tube straight, c. 8 mm with a V- shaped annulus; upper lip straight, narrowed at base. Stamens C. Nutlets c. 2.2 × 1.3 mm.

Leaves oblong, elliptic, or oblong-ovate, rounded or subcordate; indumentum of short ± scabridulous hairs; plant 15−50 cm, little branched.
Flowering time: May−September.
Habitat: In a wide variety of habitats: rocky slopes, Stipa steppe, sandy banks, meadows, oak (Quercus L.) and pine (Pinus L.) woods, fields and roadsides, 150−2300 m.

Public Description:
Salvia verticillata subsp. amasiaca, known as “whorled sage”, is native to central Europe and western Asia. It is a perennial herb with violet-blue, lilac or rarely white colors flowers, and grows up to 50 cm in length. It blooms between May and September and is found in rocky slopes, Stipa L. steppe, sandy banks, meadows, Quercus L. and Pinus L. woods, fields and roadsides. Once settled, it is resistant to all soil conditions and drought.
