Scientific Description:

Procumbent stoloniferous, pubescent or glabrous perennial. Flowering stems 30−100 cm. Leaves digitate; leaflets 5, obovate to oblong-obovate, 5−35 mm, crenate-dentate or serrate, densely adpressed-pilose to glabrous. Flowers axillary, solitary, 5-merous. Epicalyx segments and sepals usually ovate-elliptic and accrescent, up to 13 mm. Petals yellow, broadly obovate, 7−11 mm, emarginate, usually longer than sepals. Achenes rugose; style subterminal.

 

Flowering time: May-August.

Habitat: By streams, edge of lakes and in damp shady places, s.l. -2300 m.

Public Description:

Potentilla reptans, commonly known as “creeping cinquefoil” or “creeping tormentil”, is native to Eurasia and Northern Africa and naturalized elsewhere. It is a perennial herb with yellow flowers, and grows up to 100 cm in length. It blooms between May and August and is found in by streams, edge of lakes and in damp shady places. The alcoholic extracts obtained from the root of the plant exhibit moderate antimicrobial activity against wound pathogens. It helps to relieve gastrointestinal (stomach and intestinal) system, reduce inflammation, encourage rapid healing, relieve pain, improve respiratory diseases and relieve skin.
