Scientific Description:
Annual, glandular-pubescent. Stems erect, (10−)18−30 cm, often coloured, unbranched or with short suberect branches. Leaves ovate, 5−12 × 3−10 mm, deeply and ± regularly serrate, sessile, acute. Inflorescence a terminal bracteate spike-like raceme. Pedicels 0.5−1 mm. Calyx tubular, 7−16 mm; lobes 2−7 mm, linear lanceolate. Corolla reddish-purple, pink or pale sulphur-yellow, 8−18 mm, glabrous or pubescent, ± persistent; tube 5−13 mm; lower lip ± equally 3-lobed. Anthers glabrous, mucronate or obtuse. Capsule 7−14 × 2−3.5 mm.

Flowering time: April−June.
Habitat: Rocky limestone and igneous slopes, macchie, grassland, forest, cornfields, nr s.l.−1400 m.

Public Description:
Parentucellia latifolia subsp. latifolia, known as “broadleaf glandweed”, “red bartsia” or “red tarweed”, is native to Türkiye and Europe, but it can be found on other continents, including Australia, as an introduced species. It is an annual herb with reddish-purple, pink or pale sulphur-yellow flowers, and grows up to 30 cm in length. It blooms between April and June and is found in rocky limestone and igneous slopes, macchie, grassland, forest and cornfields.
