Scientific Description:

Perennial herbs; stems green, sparsely arachnoid with same diam. (1−3 mm) throughout, simple or sometimes branched, sparsely leaved below. Basal leaves 4−10 cm, entire or more commonly, pinnatisect with 7−12 narrowly linear to lanceolate, mostly mucronulate segments with revolute, usually non-undulate margin; green, sparsely arachnoid above, white woolly beneath. Cauline leaves much smaller, upper ones undivided, linear-lanceolate. Capitula solitary on long peduncles. Involucre hemispherical, 15−30 mm broad; phyllaries c. 5-seriate, lanceolate, 60−130, adpressed to patent but not reflexed; outer ± arachnoid, hardened, 4 × 1−1.5 mm, nearly as broad as but shorter than glabrescent to glandulose 14−15 × 1.5 mm inner phyllaries. Flowers lilac, purple or deep red. Immature achenes smooth to puberulent or longitudinally lamellate, mature ones longitudinally striate or suborbiculate. Pappus hairs barbellate.

 

Flowering time: May−August.

Habitat: Steppe, fallow and cultivated fields, rocks, woodland, nr s.l.−1950 m.

Public Description:

Jurinea consanguinea, known as “geyikgöbeği” in Turkish, is distributed in the Balkans, Türkiye and Aegean Islands. It is a perennial herb with lilac, purple or deep red colors flowers. It blooms between May and August and is found in steppe, fallow and cultivated fields, rocks, woodland.
