Public Description:
Geum urbanum, commonly known as “town avens” or “wood avens”, is native to Europe, Türkiye and Middle East. It is a perennail herb with yellow flowers, and grows up to 70 cm in length. It blooms between May and July and is found in shady banks of streams and lakes, and in forests. It has large rough toothed basal leaves arising from an aromatic root, smelling and tasting of cloves, once thought to protect against evil and poisons. Since the Roman times, it has been used as an antiseptic, to reduce fevers and inflammation, and to treat stomach and skin problems.
