Dianthus armeriaL. - Grass Pink
Scientific Description:
Annual, 25−85 cm, all parts densely long pubescent. Leaves flat, green, lower, long-shoot leaves 40−80 × 2−6 mm, linear-lanceolate to narrowly lanceolate, obtuse to acute. Stems freely branched, flowers in fascicles, pedicels 0.5−1.5 mm. Bracts leaf-like, about as long as the inflorescence. Bracteoles lanceolate or ovate, equalling or longer than the calyx. Calyx 16−19 × 2−3 mm, narrowed above, green or purplish, teeth 5−8 mm, linear, aristate. Petal limb dark but intense red, sometimes with white spots, 3−4 mm, narrowly ovate, barbulate, dentate.
Flowering time: June−July.
Habitat: Open fields, edges of woods, roadsides, 20−1050 m.

Public Description:
Dianthus armeria subsp. armeria, common name “deptford pink” or “grass pink”, is native to Türkiye, most of Europe, from Portugal to Scotland and southern Finland, and east to Ukraine and the Caucasus. Its populations have been introduced to and have become naturalised in New Zealand and much of North America. It is an annual herb which reaching to 85 cm tall. Its all parts are covered dense long hairs and it have remarkable red flowers. It blooms between June and July, and can be seen on fields, edges of woods and roadsides. This plant is commonly grown as an ornamental plant.
