Scientific Description:
Annual. Stems (10−)15−65(−100) cm, solitary or fasciculately branched at base, smooth, glabrous, not curved or nodding at base of panicle. Leaf sheaths smooth, uppermost usually not reaching inflorescence at anthesis; ligule 4−10 mm; blades 3−21 cm × (1−)2−8.5 mm. Panicle 7−60 × 4−25 mm (excl. awns), ovoid, oblong or subglobose, unilateral, dense; joints somewhat swollen, without whitish band. Fertile spikelets 4.5−7(−10) mm, 2−3-flowered; glumes linear-acuminate, c. as broad as lemma, white-hyaline; lemma 4−6.5 mm, 5-veined, scabridulous in upper part of dorsal surface, bidentate at apex, with awn (6−)7−18 mm from sinus; awn usually straw-coloured or greenish, sometimes purplish. Sterile spikelets consisting of 9−23 pectinate-distichous scale-like glumes and lemmas, upper ones only slightly broader than lower, each with 3.5−8 mm awn.
Flowering Time: April−August.
Habitat: Woodland (usually deciduous), dry hillsides, grassy places, fields, roadsides, nr s.l.−1950 m.

Public Description:
Cynosurus echinatus, commonly known as “hedgehog dogtail”, is native to Türkiye and Europe. It is an annual herb and grows up to 100 cm in length. It blooms between April and August and is found in deciduous woodland, dry hillsides, grassy places, fields and roadsides. It has herbicide-resistant properties.
