Crocus olivieri J. Gay - Hırçın Çiğdem (in Turkish)
Scientific Description:
Corm tunic membranous, splitting at base into coarse parallel fibres, or wholly and coarsely fibrous. Leaves 1−4(−5), synanthous, (1.5−)2−5(−7) mm broad. Prophyll absent. Bracteole present, equal to or slightly smaller than bract. Throat of perianth yellow, glabrous or pubescent; segments 1.5−3.5 × 0.4−1.2 cm, obtuse to subacute, yellow to orange-yellow, outer ones sometimes striped or suffused brownish or purplish outside. Filaments 3−7 mm, yellow, glabrous; anthers 6−15 mm, yellow. Style dividing into 6−15 slender yellow to orange branches.
Flowering time: February−April.
Habitat: Open rocky or grassy places, in light woodland, 500−1400 m.

Public Description:
Crocus olivieri subsp. olivieri, known as “hırçın çiğdem” in Turkish, is distributed in Türkiye, Macedonia, Southeast Romania, South Bulgaria, Albania and Greece. It is a herbaceous cormous perennial plant with yellowish-orange flowers. It has thin and strip-like leaves between 1−5 on the base. It blooms between February and April, and is found in rocky or grassy places, in light woodland.
