Scientific Description:

Erect or ascending, adpressed-pubescent annual. Stems branched from base 10−50 cm. Leaves 1.53 cm, oblanceolate in outline, 23-pinnatisect, lobes oblanceolate, acute, 13 × 0.5 mm. Capitula radiate; peduncles becoming thickened and arcuate. Involucre 0.50.75 cm broad; phyllaries ovate-oblong pubescent, margins scarious, acute or subacute. Receptacle elongate-conical, naked at base; paleae narrowly linear, occurring only in upper part of receptacle. Ray flowers c. 12, often fertile; ligules 37 mm. Disc corollas 2.53 mm somewhat inflated at base. Achenes persistent on receptacle, turbinate-obconical, c. l.25 mm, distinctly and thickly 10-ribbed; apex oblique, ± 10-lobed, spongy.

 

Flowering time: AprilAugust.

Habitat: Stony slopes, fields, roadsides, s.l.1500 m.

Public Description:

Anthemis pseudocotula, commonly known as “acem papatyası” in Turkish, is distributed in Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, Greece, Türkiye, North Syria and North Iran. It is an annual hairy plant with white and yellow flowers and can be reach up to 50 cm in length. It blooms between April and August and is found in stony slopes, fields and roadsides. All of Anthemis species are called “”papatya” in Türkiye and these plants extensively used in Turkish folk medicine for the treatment of gastrointestinal disorders, hemorrhoid, stomach ache and kidney stones. Many Anthemis species are used as herbal tea and for food flavoring, as well as cosmetics and in the pharmaceutical industry.
