Scientific Description:
Trees and shrubs, unarmed or spiny. Leaves deciduous, convolute in bud. Flowers solitary, in pairs or in clusters, borne before or simultaneous with leaves; sepals and petals 5; ovary superior; stamens numerous. Drupe fleshy and juicy, indehiscent, pruinose. Stone more or less compressed.

Public Description:
Prunus, is a genus of trees and shrubs, commonly known as “cherry” or “plum”, which includes the plums, cherries, peaches, nectarines, apricots and almonds, and is native to northern temperate regions in the world. There are approximately 254 species in the world and 30 species (37 taxa) in Türkiye (including genera in previous taxonomy; Amygdalus L., Cerasus Mill., Laurocerasus Duhamel, Persica Mill., Armeniaca Scop.). The fleshy parts of the fruits are eaten by numerous birds and mammals, and their seeds are easily spread by excretion. Some species of this genus is used to alleviate some of the discomfortcaused by inflammation in patientssuffering from benign prostatic hyperplasia. Some species are used in dye production. The fruits and leaves of some species are also toxic.
