MYOSOTON Moench - WATER CHICKWEED
Scientific Description:
Herbs perennial. Stems decumbent or ascending. Leaves ovate; stipules absent. Inflorescence a leafy dichasium. Sepals 5. Petals 5, white, deeply bifid. Stamens 10. Ovary 1-loculed; ovules numerous; styles 5, alternating with sepals. Capsule ovoid, dehiscing nearly to 1/2 with 5 shortly bifid valves. Seeds numerous, reniform, tuberculate; embryo curved. The genus Myosoton differs from Stellaria L. in having 5 styles, and in the capsule dividing into 5, bluntly bidentate teeth. It is similar in other aspects. Monotypic.

Myosoton is a genus of perennial herbs known as “water chickweed”. It is widespread in temperate Asia and Europe. It has only one species in Türkiye and in the world. It is a small plant with a length of less than 40 cm with white flowers.
