Public Description:

Leontodon is a genus of perennial or rarely annual herbs known as “hawkbit”, is native to Eurasia and North Africa. There are approximately 79 species in the world and 6 species (8 taxa) in Türkiye. In the middle ages it was believed that the hawks sharpened their eyes by eating from these plants, and this reason was given to the English name “Hawkbit”. Seeds of Leontodon species are an important food source for certain bird species.
