Scientific Description:
Robust perennials. Tubers large, ovate-oblong. Stem with lanceolate to oblong leaves. Spike many-flowered, broad. Sepals and petals connivent, forming an obtuse hood. Petals narrow, adhering to sepals. Labellum spurred, 3-lobed; middle lobe strap-shaped, ± spirally twisted, divided at apex into long segments; lateral lobes much shorter, falcately lanceolate to triangular, with undulate margins. Anther obtuse, caudicles of pollinia attached to a single viscidium, enclosed in a pouch (bursicula). Ovary cylindrical, minutely pedicellate or sessile, twisted, glabrous.

Public Description:
Himantoglossum is a genus of orchids, known as “keşkeşçiçeği” in Turkish, native to the Canary Islands, Europe, southwest Asia and northern Africa. There are approximately 12 species in the world and 4 species (4 taxa) in Türkiye. The members of this genus generally have a labellum in their flowers which is divided into three parts, of which the middle part is the longest. “Himantoglossum” literally means "strap tongue", and refers to the long thin lip.
