Scientific Description:
Annual hemiparasitic herbs. Stems pubescent, branched, with extended internodes. Leaves subsessile, crenate or dentate, opposite or upper subopposite. Flowers single in axils of leaf-like bracts. Calyx 4-toothed. Corolla bilabiate, white or lilac, distinctly streaked with blackish violet, lower lip flat, trilobate with emarginate lobes, upper lip cucullate, shortly bilobed. Stamens 4, didynamous; filaments curved, inserted in corolla throat; anther loculi proximally spurred, posterior spurs of posterior anthers longest. Stigma capitate. Ovary laterally compressed; capsule dehiscent in upper half. Seeds fusiform, furrowed.

Public Description:
Euphrasia, is a genus of annual hemiparasitic herbs, commonly known as “eyebright”, and have a cosmopolitan distribution. There are approximately 54 species in the world and 10 species (12 taxa) in Türkiye. The name "eyebright" in English and the name "gözotu" in Turkish are due to the use of the plants in the treatment of eye infections since the past. The herbs are also used for eyestrain and to relieve inflammation caused by colds, coughs, sinus infections, sore throats and hay fever.
