Scientific Description:
Perennial herbs or small sub-shrubs. Leaves 5−7-foliolate, rachis elongate or absent, the lowest pair of leaflets often resembling stipules; stipules minute, gland-like. Inflorescence a subcapitate umbel, subsessile or pedunculate, often subtended by leafy bracts and with an inconspicuous involucre of gland-like, free or ± united, red bracteoles. Calyx campanulate with 5 equal teeth, or slightly 2-lipped (the two upper teeth broader than the rest). Corolla white, pink or purplish; keel obtuse, dark red or violet. Stamens diadelphous. Legume oblong-cylindrical to ovoid-globular, dehiscent, often transversely septate. Seeds 1−8.

Public Description:
Dorycnium, known as “kaplanotu” in Turkish, is a genus of perennial herbs or small sub-shrubs, and is distributed in the Mediterranean and the Canary Islands. There are 12 species in the world and 7 species (8 taxa) in Türkiye. They have white, pink or purplish flowers.
