Scientific Description:
Plants with rhizomes and leafy stems. Leaves well-developed or reduced to sheaths. Flowers rather large, conspicuous, pure white, creamy-white or bright rose. Sepals and petals ± convergent to slightly spreading, the petals usually shorter. Labellum divided into a basal, ± concave or shortly spurred half (hypochile) and a distal half (epichile) with longitudinal ridges above. Column elongate, erect; anther attached by a short filament; pollinia without caudicles, pollen powdery-granulose (not united in tetrads). Stigma in front below anther; rostellum obsolete. Ovary narrowly cylindrical, to 20 mm, sessile, slightly-twisted, glabrous or glandular-pubescent. Ripe capsule elongate, to 35 mm, erect.

Public Description:
Cephalanthera is a genus of mostly tuberous terrestrial orchids known as “ceph” in horticulture, most of the native to Europe and Asia. There are approximately 25 species in the world and 9 species (9 taxa) in Türkiye. The cephs are herbaceous perennials with white or bright pink flowers.
