Trifolium hirtumAll. - Rose clover

Scientific Description:

Ascending annual, 10−20 cm. Stipules lanceolate, free portion long-subulate, villose. Leaflets 0.8−1.5 cm, obovate to oblong-cuneate. Inflorescence globose, c. 2 cm diam., sessile, subtended by very broad, almost orbicular stipules. Calyx tube obconical, densely adpressed-hairy, 20-nerved; teeth setaceous, blunt. Corolla purple, 15−17 mm, exceeding the calyx. Fruiting calyx growing in width and separating at maturity from the axis.

 

Flowering time: April−June .

Habitat: Scrub, rocky slopes, roadsides, 50−1700 m.

Public Description:

Trifolium hirtum, commonly known as “rose clover”, is native to Europe, Western Asia, and North Africa. It is an annual hairy plant with purple flowers, and grows up to 20 cm in length. It blooms between April and June and is found in scrub, rocky slopes and roadsides.
