Sternbergia lutea(L.) Ker Gawl. ex Spreng. - Winter daffodil
Scientific Description:
Bulb c. 2−4(−5) cm diam. Leaves 4−6, very narrowly lanceolate, tapering gradually to apex, synanthous or subhysteranthous with tips just appearing at late flowering time, slightly canaliculate above, keeled beneath, 7−12 mm broad, usually bright shiny green. Aerial portion of scape 2.5−20 cm at anthesis. Bract 3−6 cm, sometimes bifid at apex. Flower deep yellow, sessile. Perianth tube 5−20 mm; segments oblanceolate or obovate, (2.5−)3−5.5 × 1−2.1 cm. Filaments 1.5−3.5 cm. Seeds not strophiolate.

Flowering time: September−November.
Habitat: Usually in or near cultivated land, 20−1000 m.

Public Description:
Sternbergia lutea, commonly known as “winter daffodil” or “autumn daffodil”, spreads from the Balearic Islands in the Western Mediterranean through to Tajikistan in Central Asia. It is a bulbous perennial herb with yellow flowers which appear in autumn. Winter daffodil is a very preferred species as an ornamental plant and is one of the species exported from Türkiye.
