Public Description:
Scorzonera cana var. jacquiniana, commonly known as “tekesakalı” in Turkish, is native to Türkiye, Europe, West Syria, Iraq, Caucasia and Iran. It is a perennial plant with yellow flowers, and grows up to 60 cm in length. It blooms between May and August and is found in meadows and field edges. Black salsify (Scorzonera L. species) is one of the most distinctly-flavored root vegetable. Many species are edible and delicious. The roots also contain high amounts of high quality latex that can be used in rubber making. Tekesakalı is mainly used against inflammation and to relieve pain in Turkish traditional medicine.
