Scabiosa argentea L. - Silver Scabious
Scientific Description:
Slender erect biennial or perennial with glabrous or pubescent and setose stems 15−60 cm tall. Lower leaves 1−2-pinnatisect, segments linear; upper leaves usually simple, linear. Involucral bracts 6−8, linear, longer or shorter than flowers. Capitula 1−2.3 cm diam., radiant; flowers white or cream, sometimes flushed mauve. Fruiting head spherical. Involucel 2−2.5 mm, pilose; pits oblong, 1 mm long; ribs between pits not sulcate; corona 1−1.5 mm with 20−26 excurrent nerves. Calyx very shortly stipitate; setae 4.5−6 mm.
Flowering time: May−September (−October).
Habitat: Waste places, fields, steppe, stony slopes, s.l.−2500 m.

Public Description:
Scabiosa argentea, known as “silver scabious”, is distributed in North America, Eurasia. It is a biennial or perennial herbaceous plant which grows up to 60 cm tall. It has pinnatisect leaves and the flowers in white or cream colours are gathered like a head on the stem. It blooms between May and September and is found in waste places, fields, steppe and stony slopes.
