Scientific Description:

Perennial with a woody caudex. Stems numerous, decumbent, (3−)5−20(−30) cm. Leaves obovate to elliptic, the lower leaves 1−3 × 1−2 mm, the upper leaves 6−12 × 4−6 mm. Both axillary and terminal racemes present, 1−3(−5) cm, (2−)5−10(−16)-flowered. Bracts shorter than the pedicels. Upper sepals broad, gibbous. Inner sepals asymmetrically broadly ovate to elliptic, slightly stipitate, mauve or blue, with veins anastomosing at the apex, 4−7 × 2−4 mm. Corolla equalling or a little shorter than the inner sepals. Anthers sessile. Capsule narrowly winged, broadly ovate to oblong, obcordate.

 

Flowering time: June−July.

Habitat: Bare ground, rocky places, forests, etc., s.l.−2500 m.

Public Description:

Polygala supina, common name “gihaye sipirge” (in Turkish), is a perennial fowering plant, and native to Türkiye, South-eastern Europe, Syria and Transcaucasia,. A short plant with mauve or blue flowers and can be seen in the on stony mountain slopes, rocky places, forests up to 2500 m from above sea level in June and July.
