Scientific Description:
Stems 10−110 cm, erect, sometimes rooting, 2-lined, with branches ± ascending. Leaves 5−35 mm, narrowly ovate or lanceolate to elliptic-oblong or linear, occasionally oblanceolate, sessile or subsessile, plane, always with large pellucid dots. Sepals lanceolate to oblong or elliptic, acute to acuminate or shortly aristate, entire, without or with a few superficial black dots. Petals (5−)8−15 mm, with a few marginal black dots and sometimes superficial black streaks. Capsule (4−)5−9 mm, ovoid to pyramidal, with dorsal vittae and lateral vesicles.
Flowering time: (April−)May−August(−September).
Habitat: Dry habitats in mesophytic regions, near water elsewhere, s.l.−2500 m.

Public Description:
Hypericum perforatum, known as “common St.John's-wort”, is native to Europe, North Africa, the Azores, Madeira and West Asia. It is a perennial plant with yellow-green leaves and bright yellow flowers. It blooms between April and September and is found in dry habitats in mesophytic regions and near water elsewhere. It is widely used in traditional folk medicine. Red oil, obtained from the flowers of this plant along with olive oil, helps to heal wounds. It also has antidepressant activity.
