Cyanus depressus (M.Bieb.) Soják (= Centaurea depressa Bieb.) - Low Cornflower
Scientific Description:
Annual, 10−60 cm, often branched from near base. Leaves ± floccose-tomentose, entire and lanceolate or lower lobate with large terminal segment and 2−3 pairs of lateral lobes. Involucre (13−)14−18 × 8−12(−13) mm, ovoid to cup-shaped. Appendage a brown or blackish border with 1.5−2(−3) mm silvery teeth. Flowers similar to those of Centaurea cyanus L., but marginal slightly shorter with broader segments. Achenes 4.5−5.5(−6) mm, bearded hilum nearly ½ length of achene; pappus 5−8(−9) mm.
Flowering time: May−July.
Habitat: Fields and roadsides, s.l.−1800(−2300) m.

Public Description:
Cyanus depressus, known as “low cornflower”, is distributed in West Asia, Iran and the Caucasus. It is an annual plant with blue-purple flowers, and grows up to 60 cm in length. It blooms between May and July, and is found in fields and roadsides.
