Clinopodium grandiflorum (L.) Kuntze (= Calamintha grandiflora (L.) Moench) - Mint savory
Scientific Description:
Stems 15−60 cm, ascending to erect, often glandular, sparsely to densely spreading-pilose. Leaves ovate to elliptic, 25−60(−70) × 16−40 cm, cuneate to nearly truncate at base, sparsely to densely pilose, craspedodromous, conspicuously dentate to serrate (teeth 7−12 per side). Verticillasters 3−7, ± distant,
2−11-flowered, subumbellate, peduncles conspicuous. Bracteoles elliptic to lanceolate-subulate, 2.5−5 mm. Calyx bilabiate, 11-veined, 9−14 mm; tube slightly curved, very sparsely hairy, hairs at top of throat sparse and exserted; upper teeth recurved, 1.5−2.5 mm; lower teeth 3−5.5 mm, long-ciliate. Corolla pale or mauvish pink to red, large, 25−42 mm.
Flowering time: June−October.
Habitat: Damp and shady places, in forests and scrub, often on limestone, 300−2450 m.

Public Description:
Clinopodium grandiflorum, commonly known as “mint savory”, is native to southern Europe and Türkiye. It is a perennial herb with pale or mauvish pink to red flowers, and grows up to 60 cm in length. It blooms between June and October and is found in damp and shady places, forests and scrub, often on limestone. It is used not only as a spice for meals but also as a herbal treatment for bruises and cramps.
