Scientific Description:

Stems 1560 cm, ascending to erect, often glandular, sparsely to densely spreading-pilose. Leaves ovate to elliptic, 2560(70) × 1640 cm, cuneate to nearly truncate at base, sparsely to densely pilose, craspedodromous, conspicuously dentate to serrate (teeth 7−12 per side). Verticillasters 37, ± distant,

211-flowered, subumbellate, peduncles conspicuous. Bracteoles elliptic to lanceolate-subulate, 2.55 mm. Calyx bilabiate, 11-veined, 914 mm; tube slightly curved, very sparsely hairy, hairs at top of throat sparse and exserted; upper teeth recurved, 1.52.5 mm; lower teeth 35.5 mm, long-ciliate. Corolla pale or mauvish pink to red, large, 2542 mm.

 

Flowering time: June−October.

Habitat: Damp and shady places, in forests and scrub, often on limestone, 3002450 m.

Public Description:

Clinopodium grandiflorum, commonly known as “mint savory”, is native to southern Europe and Türkiye. It is a perennial herb with pale or mauvish pink to red flowers, and grows up to 60 cm in length. It blooms between June and October and is found in damp and shady places, forests and scrub, often on limestone. It is used not only as a spice for meals but also as a herbal treatment for bruises and cramps.
