Cirsium sintenisii Freyn - Kör Kenger (in Turkish)
Scientific Description:
Perennial, 20−40 cm. Stems ascending-erect, much-branched, paniculate, up to 35 cm broad, loosely arachnoid-woolly, soon glabrescent. Leaves spiny, sparingly arachnoid and soon glabrous above, with reticulate yellow veins, densely grey-tomentose below; basal leaves oblong-lanceolate, up to 20 × 4 cm, pinnatifid, with up to 10 pairs of lanceolate segments; lower and median stem leaves 5−8 × 2−3 cm, pinnatifid, with 3−6 pairs of triangular-ovate lobes, decurrent into cuneate wings 1−2(−4) cm long. Capitula 5−15, 20−30-flowered. Involucre ovoid or broadly ovoid, 2−3 cm broad incl. spines; phyllaries 100−160, glabrous, green, linear-subulate, spreading-reflexed, lower part 3−5 mm, adpressed, upper spreading part up to 8 mm. Bristles of receptacle smooth. Flowers yellow or somewhat red-suffused, 15−17 mm. Achenes obovate, 5 × 2.5 mm, striped lengthwise, truncate and obtusely denticulate at apex.
Flowering time: June−July.
Habitat: Steppe, volcanic slopes, fallow fields, 900−1000 m.

Public Description:
Cirsium sintenisii, is an endemic species to Türkiye and known as “kör kenger” in Turkish. It is a biennial plant with purple flowers which are surrounded by spiny leaves. It blooms between July and September and is found in steppe, volcanic slopes, fallow fields.
