Cirsium hypoleucum DC. - Bull thistle
Scientific Description:
Perennial, (20−)50−200 cm. Stems unwinged, usually sparsely paniculate (rarely unbranched), branches/peduncles long, with sparse reduced leaves. Median cauline leaves pinnatilobed to ¼−¾, 6−25 × 3−14 cm, with short scattered hairs above, whitish-tomentose beneath, lobes triangular to triangular-lanceolate, dentate to lobulate, margined by weak to firm 0.5−6 mm spines; sub-basal leaves winged-petiolate. Capitula ± nodding, solitary (sometimes paired) on elongate peduncles. Involucres hemispherical, (13−)15−20 mm. Phyllaries 6−9-seriate, median ovate-oblong, papillose and ciliolate, subacute, vittate, often purplish distally and shortly spinose-mucronate. Corollas (15−)18−20 mm, deep crimson. Achenes 4 mm. Pappus 15−17 mm.
Flowering time: May−September.
Habitat: In forests (coniferous or deciduous), on shady banks and rock ledges, nr s.l.−2000 m.

Public Description:
Cirsium hypoleucum, known as “bull thistle”, is native to northern Türkiye and Georgia. It is a perennial herb with deep crimson flowers, and grows up to 200 cm in length. It blooms between May and September and is found in forest, shady coast and rocky peaks.
