Cardamine bulbifera(L.) Crantz - Coralroot Bittercress
Scientific Description:
Perennial herb, stems up to 70 cm. Rhizome white, fleshy and scaly. Leaves alternate, the lower pinnate with up to 5 pairs of serrate leaflets, the upper ± simple, serrate. Purplish-black bulbils present in the axils of the upper leaves. Petals white to pale mauve. Siliquae 20−35 mm, often not formed.
Flowering time: April−June.
Habitat: Shady banks, streamsides, etc., often in forests, s.l.−1800 m.

Public Description:
Cardamine bulbifera, common name “coralroot bittercress”, “large-flowered bittercress” or “coral root” extends Central Europe from Britain and France to Sweden, east to the Balkans, West Asia and the Caucasus. It is a perennial herbaceous plant that can grow up to 70 cm tall, with pinkish-purple or white flowers. Leaves are in the bitter taste of a cress and are consumed raw or cooked together with roots and bulbils. It is mostly found in the forests and on the banks of the stream.
